Drew Wiard was the original owner of this Fort Wayne Real Estate Investors Association (REIA).
But this particular REIA wasn’t the first.
When Drew went to the other real estate meet ups in town, he noticed that occasionally the meetings were pitchy and the speakers were sleezy.
He saw a need for something better.
Drew believed that the meetings should be free.
We could have easily had lunch with some of the seasoned landlords in the group and got more value than some of the monthly presentations.
Wiard didn’t want to make the REIA group about himself. He wanted to created a community of people who would practice good ethics, help other prospective investors, and collaborate to solve problems facing landlords and flippers.
When Tony Moore and Dakota Bailey took over the Fort Wayne REIA, they decided to honor Drew’s tradition.
Free attendance means that no one has a reason not to come to the meetings.
Anyone who wants to get started can come create a base of real estate knowledge.
Seasoned investors can come share their knowledge with folks who are eager to learn.
No one has to push their products or services in order to make back the investment they made into monthly fees.
The costs of running the REIA meet ups are mostly covered from sponsorships from local vendors who provide important services to real estate investors.
The downside to not charging fees is that the group is unable to be associated with the National Real Estate Investors Association (NREIA).
This leads to less Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and makes it harder for folks to find us through a google search.
Our Fort Wayne REIA Group must continually advertise events and raise awareness to draw a crowd to the events.
We rely on word of mouth and social media to make our group known.
